Stan Muncy is a percussionist and jazz vibraphonist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he serves as Percussionist with the San Francisco Symphony. Stan’s extensive orchestral career includes a ten-year tenure with the Santa Rosa Symphony, regular appearances with regional orchestras, and a previous appointment as acting percussionist/assistant timpanist with the Honolulu Symphony.
Equally at home in the recording studio and on the cutting edge of contemporary music, Stan's extensive discography spans major releases on the NAXOS label and numerous San Francisco Symphony recordings. As a commercial recording artist, his film and video game score credits can be heard across sessions at Skywalker Sound, Capitol Records, and Warner Brothers Studios. As a chamber musician, Stan has toured with the four-time Grammy-winning new music sextet Eighth Blackbird and been featured in the SFS SoundBox series. As a jazz vibraphonist, he has recorded albums with the Park St. Trio and performed extensively in the bay area jazz casual scene.
A passionate educator and clinician, Stan has served on the faculties of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, and CSU Stanislaus. He frequently coaches elite young talent with the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and California Youth Symphony, and has presented masterclasses at institutions including San Jose State University and CSU East Bay.
Stan holds degrees and certificates from the prestigious Colburn School and San Francisco Conservatory of Music. His primary teachers include Jack Van Geem, David Herbert, Artie Storch, Trey Wyatt, Jim Babor, and Ted Atkatz.
